Jimi J (Jim
Pleasant) was born in Bennington, Vermont (USA). He got drafted
in the US Army and served in Vietnam in 1968.
He became involved with DJing because at a very young age
probably (about 7 years old). He used to listen to the radio all
the time and quickly fell in love with music.
Jimi J's parents bought him
a little 45 rpm record player and they would buy him a 45 single
every week while they were grocery shopping-- Yes! They sold
them in the grocery stores way back then! This was his start!
Jimi J's collected a huge
amount of 45's singles and would go across the street to his
cousins' house and set up his music on their front porch and
play music all day. He also collected 12 inch maxi singles for
many years and made tape recordings.
Back then, Jimi J would
often get asked by his friends to play at their parties. He took
his home system to these places. He even did a few class
re-unions using his home system. He was asked to DJ a school
dance for his daughter....and this is when he decided to try the
mobile DJ business.
Jimi J then purchased all
the equipment he needed and had his wife work with him for 22
plus years as a mobile DJ. Specializing in weddings and school
dances. Jimi J's best moment while DJing was doing an outdoor
wedding where the people were partying real hard and pouring
pitchers of beer over each other. He played 4 hours over at this
gig!! Man!! What a party they had there!
Jimi J is not currently
working as a DJ. He currently works in a Steering Column factory
making steering columns for many kinds of makes and models of
automobiles.
Jimi J's current connection
right now to DJing is collecting club music and making mixes
using MixMeister. Currently his only thing related to DJing is
making "dance oriented" mixes with MixMeister and burn them for
his own personal enjoyment.
Jimi J's future goal is to
become a DJ icon like
DJ Andre... heh heh, no his
goal is to be really good putting mixes together using
MixMeister... .hopefully he can achieve this. He is also
thinking he should dust the cobwebs off his gear and give it
another get-go.... just dreaming!!
